Introducing my Signature Collection
|
Art of the American West
Over the past several months, I have been immersed in a focused period of painting that has led to a new body of work that feels more deeply connected to who I am now as a painter.
Beginning April this year, I made a personal commitment to approach my work with greater intention: to slow down, listen to my own instincts, and hold each painting to a higher standard before considering it complete. After years of studying wildlife and developing my craft, I want to create paintings that feel less like simply depicting an animal and more like capturing the experience of encountering one.
The result is my Signature Collection.
Created during months of concentrated studio work, these paintings represent the direction I am pursuing now. Some draw the viewer into a quiet, intimate encounter, where dramatic light and shadow allow the animal to emerge as a powerful presence. Others place the animal within the greater world it inhabits, connecting the animal with the wild places that shape its life.
I have also become increasingly interested in movement, action, and the underlying drawing itself. I like unusual cropping and compositions that bring the viewer closer to the action, and portions of the original drawing may remain visible in the finished work. I am less interested in covering every mark or rendering every detail than I once was. Instead, I want the painting to retain something of the immediacy of the moment.
Although my paintings may be created with different approaches, they share the same purpose: to move beyond simply showing what a wild animal looks like and instead capturing something of what it feels like to share its world.
I invite you to explore my Signature Collection and experience this new chapter in my work. |
