Spring in the Garden, and a New Owlet on the Easel

Sandra J Schultz / Comment on this

Spring is in full swing here in the Sierra Nevada foothills, and it's been a season of digging in the dirt, planting the garden, and soaking up the renewal that comes with this time of year. With more time spent outdoors than in the studio lately, painting has slowed a bit, but inspiration never really stops.  There’s still snow lingering in the high country, so kayaking season hasn’t started yet, but I’m looking forward to more time painting in the coming weeks once the spring garden settles in.

Even with muddy boots and seed trays on my mind, I finished a small wildlife oil painting this month: Great Horned Owlet.  This young owl, painted in oils on a 12 x 10-inch linen Sierra Art Panel, is a study for a larger owl painting I plan to create later this year. As a California wildlife artist and former biologist, I’m always drawn to animals that carry a quiet power. The wide-eyed innocence of this owlet captures a fleeting moment of youth, still full of wild potential.

Thanks for following along with my journey as a wildlife artist inspired by nature. Whether you’re here to find a new piece of art, read about an artist’s life, or just share in a love of the natural world, I’m glad you stopped by.

Feel free to leave a comment or reach out.  I'd love to hear from you.

Until next time,
Sandra
